| WHEREAS, A 50th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of | ||
| mutual devotion and shared experiences, and Burgie and Sher | ||
| Thompson celebrated this joyous milestone in their marriage on | ||
| June 3, 2017; and | ||
| WHEREAS, While serving as a sergeant in the United States | ||
| Marine Corps, Burgie Thompson began dating the former Sher | ||
| Kellogg, a beauty school student; they were joined in matrimony | ||
| in 1967, and over the years, the couple have been blessed with a | ||
| treasured family that includes their two daughters, Wyndi and | ||
| Staci, as well as their five grandchildren, Karlee, Kynzi, | ||
| Kamren, Blake, and Koby; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Valued members of the Powderly community, Mr. and | ||
| Mrs. Thompson have lived in the area for the past two decades; | ||
| Mr. Thompson had a successful career with Yellow Freight | ||
| Trucking before attending Southwestern Baptist Theological | ||
| Seminary and devoting his life to the ministry, and today he | ||
| serves as pastor of Sawyer Baptist Church in southern Oklahoma; | ||
| Mrs. Thompson holds a master's degree in teaching and worked in | ||
| the North Lamar Independent School District; in her retirement, | ||
| she has focused her attention on her family as well as the | ||
| congregation at Sawyer Baptist Church; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson have enjoyed a half century | ||
| of abiding love and affection for each other, and they are among | ||
| an exceptional group of men and women who can claim such a lasting | ||
| commitment; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Burgie and | ||
| Sher Thompson on their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them | ||
| sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| the couple as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. | ||
