WHEREAS, Community colleges play an increasingly important | ||
role in higher education in the State of Texas, and on February 7, | ||
2017, Texas community college students, administrators, and | ||
instructors are gathering at the State Capitol; and | ||
WHEREAS, Community college leaders, students, trustees, | ||
members of the Texas Association of Community Colleges, and the | ||
Community College Association of Texas Trustees have joined | ||
together to discuss the essential contributions their schools | ||
make to the state; and | ||
WHEREAS, The total annual enrollment for Texas community | ||
and technical colleges exceeds 700,000 students, accounting for | ||
almost half of the state's postsecondary population and the | ||
largest sector of higher education; and | ||
WHEREAS, The community colleges of Texas clearly serve a | ||
vital function in the education and economic development of the | ||
state, and it is indeed a pleasure to welcome these outstanding | ||
students, instructors, trustees, and administrators to Austin; | ||
now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
Legislature, hereby recognize February 7, 2017, as Community | ||
College Day at the State Capitol and extend to all the participants | ||
sincere best wishes for a memorable and productive visit. | ||
