| WHEREAS, Community colleges play an increasingly important | ||
| role in higher education in the State of Texas, and on February 7, | ||
| 2017, Texas community college students, administrators, and | ||
| instructors are gathering at the State Capitol; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Community college leaders, students, trustees, | ||
| members of the Texas Association of Community Colleges, and the | ||
| Community College Association of Texas Trustees have joined | ||
| together to discuss the essential contributions their schools | ||
| make to the state; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The total annual enrollment for Texas community | ||
| and technical colleges exceeds 700,000 students, accounting for | ||
| almost half of the state's postsecondary population and the | ||
| largest sector of higher education; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The community colleges of Texas clearly serve a | ||
| vital function in the education and economic development of the | ||
| state, and it is indeed a pleasure to welcome these outstanding | ||
| students, instructors, trustees, and administrators to Austin; | ||
| now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, hereby recognize February 7, 2017, as Community | ||
| College Day at the State Capitol and extend to all the participants | ||
| sincere best wishes for a memorable and productive visit. | ||
