| W. I. Davis Jr. | ||
| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the | ||
| citizens of Center in mourning the loss of W. I. Davis Jr., who | ||
| died October 17, 2014, at the age of 92; and | ||
| WHEREAS, W. I. Davis was born on September 29, 1922, in | ||
| Center; a 1939 graduate of Center High School, he attended | ||
| Schreiner University and The University of Texas, and he served | ||
| the nation with distinction during World War II as a member of the | ||
| United States Army Air Corps; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He married Inez Neilson on April 5, 1947, and they | ||
| enjoyed 67 years of marriage together; they were blessed with two | ||
| children, Neilson Davis and Cynthia Davis Griffin, and with two | ||
| grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Davis was a highly successful entrepreneur | ||
| whose business interests included managing a cattle operation | ||
| and several large tree farms; he was the Mobil Oil Company | ||
| consignee for over 30 years, and he served on the board of | ||
| directors of Farmers State Bank for more than 50 years; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He received numerous honors over the course of his | ||
| distinguished career and was active in a wide range of | ||
| professional and civic organizations; a devout Christian who | ||
| practiced his faith in his daily life, he was a longtime member of | ||
| First United Methodist Church; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and | ||
| grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured | ||
| forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th | ||
| Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
| family of W. I. Davis Jr.; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
| Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
| memory of W. I. Davis Jr. | ||
