| WHEREAS, Multiple sclerosis is a chronic and disabling | ||
| disease of the central nervous system in which the progression, | ||
| severity, and specific symptoms cannot be foreseen; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Every hour of every day, someone new is diagnosed | ||
| with the disease, which can erode a person's abilities and hopes, | ||
| halt a career, and unravel the fabric of families; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Last year in Texas, more than $20 million was | ||
| raised to find the cure for this disease and to develop effective | ||
| treatments, as well as to provide a wide range of programs to | ||
| improve the lives of the more than 20,000 individuals living with | ||
| multiple sclerosis in our state; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This investment is paying off in significant | ||
| advances in treatment, including new medications that may reduce | ||
| or delay future disability for people with the disease; and | ||
| WHEREAS, While research advances have brought us closer to | ||
| finding the cure, much remains to be done, and services must | ||
| continue to be provided to those who live with the disease; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Public and private agencies are available to | ||
| serve the constantly changing needs of those living with multiple | ||
| sclerosis in Texas and their families, and it is imperative to | ||
| extend the essential services provided by these agencies to all | ||
| in need; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
| Legislature, hereby recognize March 1, 2011, as Multiple | ||
| Sclerosis Day at the State Capitol and encourage every effort to | ||
| inform Texans about multiple sclerosis and the services | ||
| available to those living with this disease; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in | ||
| commemoration of this day. | ||
