| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize Marcus High School, whose marching band recently | ||
| earned its third consecutive win in the University | ||
| Interscholastic League Class 5A marching band championship | ||
| competition; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The marching band at Marcus High School presented | ||
| an outstanding program featuring music from such luminaries as | ||
| Bach, Mozart, and Strauss; its visual program featured 10 large | ||
| chandeliers that lit up in the final part of the performance; the | ||
| school's first-place performance on November 3, 2010, followed | ||
| two previous state championships in the biennial contest, in 2006 | ||
| and in 2008; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Marcus High School in the Lewisville Independent | ||
| School District provides its students with an environment | ||
| conducive to learning and gifted leaders to guide them; their | ||
| worthy accomplishments attest to their dedication and | ||
| perseverance in pursuing their goals; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The students in the Marcus High School band, under | ||
| the direction of three-time champion band director Amanda | ||
| Drinkwater, demonstrated exceptional proficiency in their | ||
| performance; they are a source of tremendous pride for their | ||
| school, their families, and their community; now, therefore, be | ||
| it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Marcus High School | ||
| Marching Band for their hard work and outstanding achievements | ||
| and extend to them congratulations on earning the Class 5A title | ||
| in the University Interscholastic League marching band contest; | ||
| and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
