SENATE RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Terence James Fitzwater, who died on
  January 31, 2023, at the age of 65; and
         WHEREAS, Terry Fitzwater was born on July 3, 1957, in
  Phoenix, Arizona; he attended Central Michigan University and
  Rutgers University School of Law before beginning a long and
  fulfilling career in journalism; and
         WHEREAS, A highly accomplished writer, editor, and
  publisher, Terry worked in the newspaper business for four
  decades; he won numerous awards and served on many state and
  local press associations in Michigan, New Mexico, and Texas; as
  the publisher of the Kingsville Record in Kingsville, Texas,
  Terry was an advocate for free speech and highlighted stories of
  those who serve the public, especially stories about World War II
  and Vietnam War veterans; and
         WHEREAS, Terry was an avid traveler, history buff, and
  University of Michigan football fan; he delighted in auto racing;
  in attending concerts, watching movies, playing games and
  exploring the great outdoors; a man of deep faith and devotion to
  service, he attended Saint Gertrude the Great Catholic Church in
  Kingsville and was an active member of the Elks and Rotary
  International organizations; above all, Terry cherished his
  family and time spent with his four children and six
  grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, A respected leader in his field and a trusted
  friend to many, Terence Fitzwater was a highly esteemed citizen
  who was a source of inspiration to those who knew him through his
  fierce dedication to his values and his enthusiasm for enjoying
  and living each day to the fullest; his memory will long be
  cherished with respect and admiration by his loved ones and by
  all who were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Terence James Fitzwater; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Terence J. Fitzwater.
