| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| welcome the citizens from across the state who are assembled in | ||
| Austin on February 20, 2013, for Substance Abuse Prevention and | ||
| Treatment Advocacy Day at the Capitol; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Substance abuse is a serious issue with social and | ||
| financial costs that can destroy lives and families; the | ||
| prevention of substance abuse and the treatment of chemical | ||
| dependency are worthy endeavors and provide positive and | ||
| measurable contributions to society; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Since 2005, three outstanding substance abuse | ||
| treatment and prevention organizations have been working | ||
| together to carry the message that these services are vital | ||
| services for the state; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Texas Association of Addiction Professionals | ||
| represents chemical dependency counselors; the Association of | ||
| Substance Abuse Programs represents and coordinates over 60 | ||
| community-based nonprofit substance abuse treatment and | ||
| prevention organizations across the state; and the Texas Summit | ||
| Committee for Prevention is a coalition of agencies focused on | ||
| drug and alcohol prevention education; and | ||
| WHEREAS, These organizations are hosting Substance Abuse | ||
| Prevention and Treatment Advocacy Day to provide a forum for the | ||
| discussion of substance abuse issues in the state and to advocate | ||
| for legislative support in the fight against substance abuse and | ||
| in the effort to heighten public awareness of this affliction; | ||
| now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, | ||
| 83rd Legislature, hereby proclaim February 20, 2013, Substance | ||
| Abuse Prevention and Treatment Advocacy Day at the Capitol and | ||
| commend all those who work each and every day to prevent and treat | ||
| substance abuse; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in | ||
| recognition of this occasion. | ||
