	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 146
	WHEREAS, Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death
	among women in the United States and the second most common form
	of cancer among the nation's women; and
	WHEREAS, The disease affects over 12 percent of females
	born today in the United States, and it can quickly spread to
	vital organs, despite treatment and preventive measures; and
	WHEREAS, Metastatic breast cancer is the most advanced
	stage of breast cancer; it is the stage in which cancer has spread
	beyond the breast to other organs in the body; thirty percent of
	women diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer will eventually
	be diagnosed with metastatic cancer; and
	WHEREAS, Tremendous advancements in breast cancer
	treatment have been made, yet there is a crucial need for
	continued research to assist in the development of more effective
	treatments for metastatic breast cancer; and
	WHEREAS, Across the Lone Star State and around the country,
	advocacy groups are working to increase awareness of the disease
	and to underscore the importance of continued medical research;
	now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
	Legislature, hereby commend all those who are working to raise
	awareness of metastatic cancer and who are supporting research to
	develop more effective treatments of the disease; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
	honor of this important endeavor.
