| WHEREAS, Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death | ||
| among women in the United States and the second most common form | ||
| of cancer among the nation's women; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The disease affects over 12 percent of females | ||
| born today in the United States, and it can quickly spread to | ||
| vital organs, despite treatment and preventive measures; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Metastatic breast cancer is the most advanced | ||
| stage of breast cancer; it is the stage in which cancer has spread | ||
| beyond the breast to other organs in the body; thirty percent of | ||
| women diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer will eventually | ||
| be diagnosed with metastatic cancer; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Tremendous advancements in breast cancer | ||
| treatment have been made, yet there is a crucial need for | ||
| continued research to assist in the development of more effective | ||
| treatments for metastatic breast cancer; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Across the Lone Star State and around the country, | ||
| advocacy groups are working to increase awareness of the disease | ||
| and to underscore the importance of continued medical research; | ||
| now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend all those who are working to raise | ||
| awareness of metastatic cancer and who are supporting research to | ||
| develop more effective treatments of the disease; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in | ||
| honor of this important endeavor. | ||
