| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| join citizens across the state in celebrating February 8, 2017, | ||
| as Communities In Schools Day at the State Capitol; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Communities In Schools of Texas was established | ||
| in Houston in 1979; the organization's mission is to surround | ||
| students with a community of support that will empower them and | ||
| help them to stay in school and achieve their goals; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The organization builds partnerships with school | ||
| districts, businesses, and communities in order to provide | ||
| critical services to students who are at risk of dropping out of | ||
| school; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In the years since its inception, Communities In | ||
| Schools of Texas has expanded to include 28 programs that | ||
| annually serve more than 93,000 at-risk students in 942 Texas | ||
| schools; among students participating in the program, 92 percent | ||
| make improvements in their classroom behavior, and 95 percent are | ||
| promoted to the next grade level; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Communities In Schools of Texas is a program of | ||
| immeasurable importance that helps young Texans prepare for the | ||
| years ahead and build bright and successful futures; it is indeed | ||
| fitting that we honor those associated with the organization for | ||
| their work on behalf of the students of the Lone Star State; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend all who have contributed to the | ||
| success of Communities In Schools of Texas and extend to them | ||
| best wishes for an enjoyable Communities In Schools Day at the | ||
| State Capitol; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this | ||
| organization as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
