Clifton J. Bolner | ||
WHEREAS, All who shared in the life of Clifton J. Bolner of | ||
San Antonio were deeply saddened by his death on | ||
January 10, 2023, at the age of 94; and | ||
WHEREAS, The son of Joe and Josephine Bolner, Clif Bolner | ||
was born in San Antonio on July 30, 1928, and he grew up with the | ||
companionship of his sister, Peggy; after graduating from | ||
Central Catholic High School, he earned a bachelor's degree in | ||
business from Texas A&M University, and he played clarinet and | ||
saxophone in both the Central and Aggie bands; and | ||
WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Bolner | ||
joined the United States Air Force in 1949, and he served at Kelly | ||
Air Force Base; along the way, he worked as a partner and butcher | ||
at Bolner's Grocery, which was owned by his father; he sold his | ||
share of the store in 1955, and subsequently established Bolner's | ||
Fiesta Spices, which he ably led for more than six decades; and | ||
WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his community, Mr. Bolner | ||
served as vice chair of the San Antonio Symphony board as well as | ||
chair of the Witte Museum board; among his many achievements, he | ||
was recognized as a Distinguished Alumnus by Texas A&M | ||
University, the Texas A&M Mays Business School, and the Central | ||
Catholic High School Alumni Association, and he received the | ||
Brotherhood Award from the National Conference of Christians and | ||
Jews; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Bolner shared nearly six decades of marriage | ||
with his first wife, Rosalie, before her passing in 2008; fortunate | ||
enough to find love again, he enjoyed a rewarding union with his | ||
second wife, Mary Jo Biedeger, who also preceded him in death; he | ||
took great pride in his eight children, Tim, Mike, Debbie, Cindy, | ||
Beverly, Chris, Mary Beth, and Mary Paulette, and over the years, | ||
he had the pleasure of welcoming into his family 27 grandchildren | ||
and 19 great-grandchildren; during his leisure hours, he liked to | ||
spend time in the Rocky Mountains and the Texas Hill Country and at | ||
the Texas coast; and | ||
WHEREAS, An engaged citizen, a dedicated family man, and an | ||
admired business leader, Clif Bolner leaves behind a record of | ||
achievements that his loved ones can remember with pride; now, | ||
therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory | ||
of Clifton J. Bolner and extend heartfelt sympathy to all who | ||
mourn his passing; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns | ||
this day, it do so in memory of Clif Bolner. | ||
