James Edward Garner | ||
WHEREAS, Memories of joyful times and meaningful | ||
accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends of James | ||
Edward Garner of Daingerfield, who passed away on May 27, 2017, | ||
at the age of 83; and | ||
WHEREAS, The son of F. J. Garner and Gordie Opal Garner, | ||
Jim Garner was born in Texarkana, Arkansas, on April 17, 1934; | ||
after graduating from Arkansas High School, he worked as a | ||
firefighter while attending North Texas State University; he | ||
went on to answer his nation's call to duty as a member of the | ||
United States Air Force, and he attained the rank of captain | ||
before returning to civilian life; for nearly four decades, he | ||
enjoyed a successful career as a personnel director in the human | ||
resources departments at Lone Star Steel and T&N Railroad; and | ||
WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. Garner was a | ||
longtime member of the Daingerfield High School athletic booster | ||
club and a valued congregant of the First Baptist Church of | ||
Daingerfield, where he volunteered as a deacon for more than half | ||
a century; he also remained dedicated to his fellow veterans, | ||
serving as a member of the honor guard of American Legion Post | ||
No. 351 and as the veterans service officer of Morris County; in | ||
his leisure hours, he loved spending time in the great outdoors, | ||
especially hunting and fishing; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Garner was the devoted husband of Jean Daniel | ||
Garner, with whom he shared six rewarding decades of marriage; over | ||
the years, the couple were blessed with two children, Suzanne | ||
Carpenter and her husband, Dane, and Lee Austin Garner and his | ||
wife, Marion, and they eventually knew the joy of welcoming into | ||
their family four grandchildren, Cody Carpenter and his wife, | ||
Megan, Nikki Carpenter, and Christina and Kimberly Garner, as well | ||
as a great-granddaughter, Sadie Lynn Carpenter; and | ||
WHEREAS, Jim Garner lived a rich and purposeful life | ||
dedicated to his family, his faith, and his country, and he | ||
leaves behind a record of service that his loved ones can | ||
remember with pride; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory | ||
of James Edward Garner and extend heartfelt sympathy to his | ||
relatives and friends; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do | ||
so in memory of Jim Garner. | ||
