| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize Roberto "El Primo" Pulido for his many contributions to | ||
| the state's music industry; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Roberto Pulido is a native of Edinburg, and he has | ||
| been a leader in the Rio Grande Valley's music scene for many | ||
| years; he served as a music teacher for a time in the Pharr-San | ||
| Juan-Alamo Independent School District before establishing the | ||
| band Los Clasicos; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Under his direction, the band developed a unique | ||
| musical style that combined the traditional Tejano orchestral | ||
| brass sound with the accordion-based sound of conjunto, polka, | ||
| and cumbia; this innovative hybrid quickly became popular, and | ||
| the band's single "Copa Tras Copa" achieved great success; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Over the course of his distinguished career, | ||
| Roberto Pulido has produced more than 40 albums and performed in | ||
| venues across the United States and Mexico; known affectionately | ||
| to his fans as "El Primo," he has also produced and appeared in | ||
| numerous music videos and television programs; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He established the Roberto Pulido Music | ||
| Scholarship Endowment Fund at The University of Texas--Pan | ||
| American and The University of Texas at Brownsville, and he has | ||
| been active in the City of Edinburg Christmas Toy Drive; he is | ||
| truly deserving of special recognition for his hard work and his | ||
| outstanding achievements; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend Roberto Pulido on his exemplary | ||
| contributions to the rich musical legacy of South Texas and | ||
| extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his | ||
| endeavors; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
