| Betty Jean Slentz West | ||
| WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Betty | ||
| Jean Slentz West, who passed away on July 26, 2017, at the age of | ||
| 91; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Born in Three Sands, Oklahoma, on March 3, 1926, | ||
| the former Betty Jean Slentz was the daughter of Andrew and | ||
| Bessie Slentz and grew up with the companionship of a brother, | ||
| Leroy, and three sisters, Florence, Helen, and Nita; she was | ||
| joined in matrimony to Jack West in 1944, and the couple shared | ||
| nearly six decades of marriage before his passing; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mrs. West was the proud mother of three children, | ||
| David West, Cecil West, and Nancy Graham; she later welcomed into | ||
| her family five grandchildren, Tracy, Kellie, Shane, Bryan, and | ||
| John, as well as eight great-grandchildren, Courtney, Levi, | ||
| Ashley, Wade, Mason, Hannah, Gavin, and Jack, and five | ||
| great-great-grandchildren, Bryleigh, Jace, Macy, Kolby, and | ||
| Hadlee; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In 1965, Mrs. West began her career at Henderson | ||
| Memorial Hospital, and after a notable tenure there that spanned | ||
| 16 years, she became a first assistant county auditor for Rusk | ||
| County in 1981; she went on to serve as county treasurer from 1990 | ||
| to 1991; following her retirement, she joined her husband in | ||
| working as a gate attendant for the United States Army Corps of | ||
| Engineers in several different states; in their leisure time, the | ||
| couple enjoyed traveling in their motor home with their dog, | ||
| Peanut; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Admired for her kindness, her devotion to her | ||
| family, and her dedication to her fellow citizens, Betty West | ||
| lived a caring and purposeful life, and she will forever be | ||
| remembered with deep affection by all who had the good fortune to | ||
| know her; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory | ||
| of Betty Jean Slentz West and extend heartfelt sympathy to her | ||
| relatives and many friends; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do | ||
| so in memory of Betty West. | ||
