| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| welcome representatives of Denton County to Austin on the | ||
| occasion of Denton County Days at the State Capitol; and | ||
| WHEREAS, First settled in the early 1840s, Denton County | ||
| was created in 1846 out of land from the original Peters Colony | ||
| Grant and was named for John B. Denton, a pioneer lawyer and | ||
| Methodist minister; the City of Denton serves as the county seat; | ||
| the historic Denton County Courthouse was dedicated in 1897 and, | ||
| with its limestone exterior and majestic clock tower, is one of | ||
| the region's most impressive sights; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Denton County is noted for its emphasis on | ||
| education; the county has 11 outstanding public school districts | ||
| and is home to such distinguished institutions as the University | ||
| of North Texas, Texas Woman's University, and North Central Texas | ||
| College; and | ||
| WHEREAS, | ||
| Money Magazine | ||
| WHEREAS, Cultural and recreational opportunities like the | ||
| Texas Motor Speedway, Lake Ray Roberts, and Lewisville Lake | ||
| contribute to the region's thriving economy and progressive | ||
| development; and | ||
| WHEREAS, | ||
| Hugh Coleman, Ron Marchant, Bobbie J. Mitchell, and Andy Eads; | ||
| the citizens of Denton County are justifiably proud of the | ||
| county's many contributions to the growth and prosperity of the | ||
| Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in | ||
| honor of this special occasion. | ||
