Rita Lou McCreary | ||
WHEREAS, Family and friends were deeply saddened by the | ||
passing of Rita Lou McCreary on June 6, 2023, at the age of 88; and | ||
WHEREAS, The daughter of Maude and Oscar Green, Rita | ||
McCreary was born on her family's farm in Fulton, Arkansas, on | ||
February 15, 1935, and she grew up with the companionship of | ||
seven siblings, Ronald, Inez, Farrell, Taylor, Sue, Janice, and | ||
Dixie; after graduating from Hope High School, she attended | ||
nursing school and became a nurse anesthetist; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mrs. McCreary later began working at hospitals in | ||
Dallas, during which time she met her future husband, Howell; the | ||
couple went on to share a fulfilling marriage until Mr. McCreary's | ||
passing in 1999; Mrs. McCreary retired from nursing to raise their | ||
three children, Martin, Stephanie, and Heather, and with the | ||
passing years, she had the privilege of seeing her family grow to | ||
include two grandchildren, Sophie and Stiles; and | ||
WHEREAS, After settling in Gainesville, Mrs. McCreary | ||
became highly engaged in her community; she enjoyed gardening | ||
with the other parishioners at Westminster Presbyterian Church, | ||
and she was instrumental in procuring a location for the ABBA | ||
Women's Center, where she also served as a board member and as | ||
director; in addition, she was a founding member of Cooke County | ||
Republican Women and often gave of her time as a pollster during | ||
elections; her contributions to conservative politics were | ||
recognized in 1992 and again in 1994; and | ||
WHEREAS, Rita McCreary lived a caring and purposeful life, | ||
and she will forever be remembered with deep affection by all who | ||
held her close to their hearts; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory | ||
of Rita Lou McCreary and extend sincere sympathy to all who mourn | ||
her passing; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be | ||
prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns | ||
this day, it do so in memory of Rita McCreary. | ||
