SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 118
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Jorge L. Quijano, a prominent Lamar University alumnus
  who is the chief executive officer and administrator of the
  Panama Canal Authority; and
         WHEREAS, Jorge Quijano earned both a bachelor of science
  degree and a master of engineering degree in industrial
  engineering and management from Lamar University, and he is the
  leader of the Panama Canal Expansion Program; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Quijano began his career with the Panama Canal
  Authority in 1975 and served in several capacities before
  becoming director of Maritime Operations in 1999; after being
  designated manager of the canal's expansion program, he was
  appointed executive vice president of the Engineering and
  Programs Management Department in 2007; he was named chief
  executive officer and administrator of the Panama Canal
  Authority in September of 2012; and
         WHEREAS, The leading interoceanic waterway that serves
  worldwide maritime commerce, the Panama Canal is undergoing an
  expansion that will double its capacity by 2015; the project
  creates a new lane of traffic along the canal by the construction
  of a new set of locks, and the expansion will allow more and
  larger ships to transit; and
         WHEREAS, As leader of the project, Mr. Quijano heads a
  group of 500 professionals and is in charge of an integrated
  program management team that directs the entire expansion
  program; and
         WHEREAS, A highly respected leader in the engineering and
  maritime community who is widely praised for his exceptional
  accomplishments, Jorge Quijano is being presented with a Texas
  Industrial Engineering Lifetime Achievement Award by the Lamar
  University Engineering Department on February 15, 2013; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  83rd Legislature, hereby congratulate Jorge L. Quijano on
  earning a Texas Industrial Engineering Lifetime Achievement
  Award from the Lamar University Engineering Department and
  proclaim him an Honorary Citizen of Texas; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of high esteem from the Texas Senate.
