SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 116
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Herbert Canales for his many years of outstanding
service as director of the Corpus Christi Public Libraries and
for his leadership in the Corpus Christi community; and
WHEREAS, Herb Canales joined the city as a public servant
in 1980 and has served the City of Corpus Christi for over 32
years; he is now retiring from his position as interim assistant
city manager; and
WHEREAS, Herb was appointed director of the city's
libraries in 1985, and he quickly set about modernizing and
expanding the library system and increasing the accessibility of
the libraries to the public; and
WHEREAS,
WHEREAS, He envisioned a computer system that connected
Corpus Christi to library databases across the country, and his
forward thinking and consensus building led to a modern library
system that included digitization of the city's historical
archive material; and
WHEREAS, The citizens of the Corpus Christi community have
greatly benefited from the dedication and vision of this talented
public servant, and he deserves recognition for his innumerable
accomplishments on behalf of the city; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
Legislature, hereby commend Herbert Canales for his invaluable
contributions to the Corpus Christi Public Libraries and to the
City of Corpus Christi and extend to him best wishes for the
retirement years ahead; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
