| WHEREAS, An inspiring couple whose lives have been | ||
| enhanced by a great and enduring love, Johnny and Bonnie Cates of | ||
| Quitman are celebrating their 62nd wedding anniversary on | ||
| April 7, 2017; and | ||
| WHEREAS, On that memorable day in 1955, high school | ||
| sweethearts Johnny Cates and the former Bonnie Williams were | ||
| joined in matrimony in a ceremony held at the First Baptist | ||
| Church of Gilmer; over the years, they became the parents of four | ||
| children, Steve, Amanda, Laura Lee, and the late Scott Cates, and | ||
| today their fine family has grown to include two additional | ||
| generations; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Valued residents of Quitman since 1970, the | ||
| couple are now both retired; Mr. Cates served as a colonel in the | ||
| Texas National Guard and Reserve and worked for the Texas | ||
| Agricultural Extension Service, while Mrs. Cates enjoyed a | ||
| notable career with the Quitman Independent School District; and | ||
| WHEREAS, While much has changed in the world over the past | ||
| 62 years, this devoted husband and wife have remained constant in | ||
| their commitment to each other, and the strength of their love | ||
| has enabled them to meet life's challenges and opportunities with | ||
| grace and optimism; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, hereby congratulate Johnny and Bonnie Cates on the | ||
| occasion of their 62nd wedding anniversary and extend to them | ||
| sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| the couple as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. | ||
