| WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the | ||
| passing of James W. Odom of Lawton, Oklahoma, on October 5, 2021, | ||
| at the age of 77; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The son of Cherry and W. L. Odom, Jim Odom was born | ||
| on August 5, 1944, in Muskogee, Oklahoma; he grew up in nearby | ||
| Wagoner and attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman, where he | ||
| earned a bachelor's degree in geology; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Odom began his career at City National Bank and | ||
| Trust and eventually retired from First National Bank and Trust; a | ||
| valued member of the Lawton community, he played an important role | ||
| in financing numerous businesses as well as eight churches in | ||
| Oklahoma and Louisiana; and | ||
| WHEREAS, On May 31, 1968, Mr. Odom married Judy Kimbriel in | ||
| Waco; over the course of a rewarding union that spanned more than | ||
| half a century, the couple were blessed with a fine family that grew | ||
| to include two children, James and Ashleigh, and six grandchildren; | ||
| in his leisure time, he loved to hunt and explore the great outdoors | ||
| with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren; he was | ||
| also a man of strong faith; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Although Jim Odom is deeply missed, memories of his | ||
| warmth, kindness, and delightful sense of humor remain to comfort | ||
| and inspire those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the 87th Legislature of the State of Texas, | ||
| 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of James W. Odom | ||
| and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his | ||
| wife, Judy; to his son, Dr. James Odom; to his daughter, Ashleigh | ||
| Berry, and her husband, Jarett; to his grandchildren, Isaac Odom | ||
| and Jack, George, Rebecca, Joseph, and Nate Berry; to his sister, | ||
| Joanna Beck, and her husband, Wallace; to his sister- and | ||
| brother-in-law, Ann and Jerry Secrest; to his friend, Bill | ||
| Farinholt; and to all others who mourn his passing; and, be it | ||
| further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
| Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of | ||
| Jim Odom. | ||
