SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
  WHEREAS, The Rotary Club of Tyler celebrated its centennial
  in 2020; and
         WHEREAS, Chartered on May 1, 1920, under the leadership of
  founding president T. H. Shelby, the club still operates under its
  original charter today; its membership of more than 250
  civic-minded individuals met in the Blackstone Hotel for many
  years, and it was popularly known as the Downtown Rotary Club; and
         WHEREAS, The group has demonstrated an exceptional
  commitment to education through the decades, highlighting the
  accomplishments of outstanding seniors from area high schools and
  hosting the annual Young Citizens Club banquet; moreover, it has
  donated funds and provided support to all of the city's major civic
  organizations, among them the Literacy Council of Tyler, the East
  Texas Symphony Orchestra, the Texas Rose Festival, and the Tyler
  Museum of Art; and
         WHEREAS, Recognizing health care needs in the community, the
  Rotarians have made gifts of significant impact to numerous
  organizations, including the Bethesda Health Clinic, the Tyler
  Junior College Robert M. Rogers Nursing & Health Sciences Center
  Dental Clinic, and The University of Texas Health Science Center at
  Tyler; and
         WHEREAS, Guided by the motto "Service Above Self," members of
  the Rotary Club of Tyler have played a vital role in the betterment
  of their community for over a century, earning the deep admiration
  and appreciation of their fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 87th Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby commemorate the centennial of the Rotary Club of Tyler and
  extend to its members sincere best wishes for continued success in
  their important work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
