| WHEREAS, Admiral Bobby R. Inman has served the nation with | ||
| honor and distinction over the course of a career that has seen him | ||
| dedicate his considerable talents to safeguarding the nation's | ||
| freedom; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A 1950 graduate of The University of Texas at | ||
| Austin, Admiral Inman has been awarded the Joe M. Kilgore Award for | ||
| Public Service from the Greater Austin Crime Commission; the | ||
| commission was founded in 1997 to support Central Texas law | ||
| enforcement and raise public awareness about crime prevention, and | ||
| it is celebrating its 15th anniversary next year; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Admiral Inman served in the United States Navy from | ||
| 1951 through 1982; while on active duty, he served as director of | ||
| the National Security Agency and as deputy director of Central | ||
| Intelligence; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Since his retirement with the permanent rank of | ||
| admiral, he has played an important role in securing funding for | ||
| start-up technology companies and served as chairman and chief | ||
| executive officer of the Microelectronics and Computer Technology | ||
| Corporation and president and chief executive officer of Westmark | ||
| Systems, Incorporated; he is managing director of Gefinor Ventures | ||
| and Limestone Ventures; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Admiral Inman has worked to pass on his extensive | ||
| knowledge of policy issues as the Lyndon B. Johnson Centennial | ||
| Chair in National Policy at The University of Texas at Austin; he | ||
| served as the interim dean of the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public | ||
| Affairs in 2005 and from 2009 to 2010; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Admiral Inman's contributions as a military | ||
| officer, businessman, philanthropist, and educator have greatly | ||
| benefited our state and nation, and he is truly deserving of | ||
| recognition from the Texas Legislature; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the 82nd Legislature of the State of Texas | ||
| hereby commend Admiral Bobby R. Inman on his exceptional service | ||
| and extend congratulations to him on receiving the Joe M. Kilgore | ||
| Award for Public Service; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for him | ||
| as an expression of highest esteem from the Texas Legislature. | ||
