| WHEREAS, El Paso has long been known for its rich cultural | ||
| heritage, dynamic economy, and distinctive traditions, and it has | ||
| gained a global reputation as a center for boot making; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The city is home to iconic boot manufacturers such | ||
| as Lucchese, Rocketbuster, Caboots, and Tony Lama, along with a | ||
| host of other renowned businesses that have contributed to | ||
| El Paso's growing influence as a leader in producing premier | ||
| Western footwear; and | ||
| WHEREAS, El Paso's array of boot makers includes multiple | ||
| companies that have been in operation for more than a century, and | ||
| the craftspeople who power the industry have proven their mastery | ||
| of techniques that have been passed down for generations; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In addition to producing products of exceptional | ||
| quality, these businesses fuel the local economy, create jobs, and | ||
| attract visitors from around the world to witness the handiwork of | ||
| the city's artisans; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Through their dedication to the preservation and | ||
| promotion of their trade, the boot makers of El Paso have elevated | ||
| the craft and furthered the cultural and artistic identity of the | ||
| Lone Star State, and the city's role in promoting the continued | ||
| vitality of this time-honored and uniquely Texan tradition is | ||
| indeed deserving of recognition; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas | ||
| hereby designate El Paso as the official Boot Capital of Texas; and, | ||
| be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section | ||
| 391.003(e), Government Code, this designation remain in effect | ||
| until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally | ||
| passed by the legislature. | ||
