CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The primary responsibility of public officials is to
  keep our citizens safe; and
         WHEREAS, Law enforcement officials who refuse to comply with,
  honor, and fulfill requests included in an immigration detainer
  issued by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement
  jeopardize the safety of the citizens of Texas; and
         WHEREAS, Failing to honor immigration detainers invites
  illegal and criminal activity; and
         WHEREAS, Successful law enforcement requires the
  coordination and cooperation of many agencies and entities across
  all levels of government; and
         WHEREAS, Failing to coordinate and cooperate with other law
  enforcement agencies is a failure of a sworn duty to protect the
  public and uphold the laws of our state and nation; and
         WHEREAS, With our border yet to be secured, municipalities
  should not enact policies that turn a blind eye to the criminal
  activity of those who enter our country illegally and then continue
  to break our laws; and
         WHEREAS, Efforts to secure our border must be accompanied by
  eliminating lures such as sanctuary policies that attract illegal
  immigrants; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 85th Legislature of the State of Texas
  call on sheriffs' offices in all 254 counties in Texas to comply
  with, honor, and fulfill requests included in an immigration
  detainer issued by United States Immigration and Customs
  Enforcement.
