A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the application of whistleblower protections to
employees of an open-enrollment charter school.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 554.001(2), Government Code, is amended
to read as follows:
(2) "Local governmental entity" means:
(A) a political subdivision of the state,
including a [:
[(A)] county,[;
[(B)] municipality,[;
[(C) public] school district,[;] or
[(D)] special-purpose district or authority; or
(B) an open-enrollment charter school.
SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act apply only to
reports by a public employee of a violation of law by the employing
governmental entity that are made on or after the effective date of
this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013.
