BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 18, Election Code, is | ||
amended by adding Section 18.062 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 18.062. INTERSTATE VOTER REGISTRATION CROSSCHECK | ||
PROGRAM. (a) To maintain the statewide voter registration list | ||
and to prevent duplication of registration in more than one state or | ||
jurisdiction, the secretary of state shall cooperate with other | ||
states and jurisdictions to develop systems to compare voters, | ||
voter history, and voter registration lists to identify voters | ||
whose addresses have changed. | ||
(b) A system developed under this section must comply with | ||
the National Voter Registration Act (52 U.S.C. Section 20501 et | ||
seq.). | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2015. | ||
