| relating to the establishment of a boil water notice alert system. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 341, Health and Safety | ||
| Code, is amended by adding Section 341.043 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 341.043. BOIL WATER NOTICE ALERT SYSTEM. (a) The | ||
| commission shall develop and implement an alert system to be | ||
| activated in the event of a boil water notice and any related | ||
| information, including any recission or expiration of the boil | ||
| water notice. | ||
| (b) The alert system must include the ability to provide | ||
| notifications through electronic instant messaging. | ||
| (c) The commission may adopt rules and procedures necessary | ||
| to implement this section. | ||
| SECTION 2. As soon as practicable after the effective date | ||
| of this Act, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality shall | ||
| establish the alert system required by Section 341.043, Health and | ||
| Safety Code, as added by this Act. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2023. | ||
