relating to requiring the board of trustees of each school district | ||
to create a nonvoting parent trustee position on the board. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 11, Education Code, is | ||
amended by adding Section 11.0512 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 11.0512. PARENT TRUSTEE. (a) In addition to the | ||
number of trustees of a school district as provided by Section | ||
11.051, the board of trustees of each school district must include | ||
as a nonvoting member a parent trustee as provided by this section. | ||
(b) For a parent trustee under this section, the board shall | ||
adopt a policy that establishes: | ||
(1) the term of the parent trustee; | ||
(2) the procedures for selecting a parent trustee, | ||
including the method for filling a vacancy; and | ||
(3) the procedures for removal of a parent trustee. | ||
(c) A person is eligible to serve as a parent trustee for a | ||
school district if the person is the parent of a student who is | ||
currently enrolled in the school district. | ||
(d) The board shall adopt a policy regarding parent trustee: | ||
(1) participation, other than voting, in board | ||
deliberations; and | ||
(2) access to information, documents, and records, | ||
consistent with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of | ||
1974 (20 U.S.C. Section 1232g). | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect December 1, 2017. |
