| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 662, Government Code, is | ||
| amended by adding Section 662.111 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 662.111. GUN VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH. (a) June is | ||
| Gun Violence Awareness Month to increase awareness of gun violence | ||
| and encourage community residents and leaders to discuss and | ||
| implement methods for reducing or preventing gun violence in order | ||
| to make communities safer and healthier, especially during the | ||
| summer months when gun violence is typically heightened. | ||
| (b) Gun Violence Awareness Month may be regularly observed | ||
| through appropriate activities in communities to increase | ||
| awareness and prevention of gun violence. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. | ||
