relating to requiring the Texas Education Agency to conduct a study | ||
regarding school district consolidation in Cameron County. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. DEFINITION. In this Act, "agency" means the | ||
Texas Education Agency. | ||
SECTION 2. STUDY REGARDING SCHOOL DISTRICT CONSOLIDATION. | ||
The agency shall conduct a study regarding school district | ||
consolidation in Cameron County. In conducting the study, the | ||
agency shall consider: | ||
(1) any cost savings associated with economies of | ||
scale achieved through school district consolidation; and | ||
(2) any impact of school district consolidation on | ||
entitlements under the Foundation School Program. | ||
SECTION 3. REPORT TO LEGISLATURE. Not later than December | ||
1, 2018, the agency shall submit a report that includes the results | ||
of the study and any associated recommendations to: | ||
(1) the governor; | ||
(2) the lieutenant governor; | ||
(3) the speaker of the house of representatives; | ||
(4) the presiding officer of each legislative standing | ||
committee with primary jurisdiction over primary and secondary | ||
education; and | ||
(5) the members of the house of representatives and | ||
the senate whose district includes any part of Cameron County. | ||
SECTION 4. EXPIRATION. This Act expires September 1, 2019. | ||
SECTION 5. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect | ||
immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members | ||
elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas | ||
Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for | ||
immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
