| relating to continuing education programs for fire detection and | ||
| alarm device installation. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Section 6002.052(b), Insurance Code, is amended | ||
| to read as follows: | ||
| (b) Under rules adopted under Section 6002.051, the | ||
| department may create specialized licenses or registration | ||
| certificates for an organization or individual engaged in the | ||
| business of planning, certifying, leasing, selling, servicing, | ||
| installing, monitoring, or maintaining fire alarm or fire detection | ||
| devices or systems. The rules must establish appropriate training | ||
| and qualification standards and continuing education requirements | ||
| for each kind of license and certificate. | ||
| SECTION 2. Section 6002.159(b), Insurance Code, is amended | ||
| to read as follows: | ||
| (b) If the commissioner certifies continuing education | ||
| programs under this section, the commissioner by rule shall require | ||
| license holders to participate [ |

| SECTION 3. The change in law made by this Act applies only | ||
| to a license issued or renewed on or after the effective date of | ||
| this Act. A license issued or renewed before the effective date of | ||
| this Act is governed by the law in effect immediately before the | ||
| effective date of this Act, and that law is continued in effect for | ||
| that purpose. | ||
| SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. | ||
