| relating to the establishment of an innovative workforce training | ||
| center in the Rio Grande Valley. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 130, Education Code, is | ||
| amended by adding Section 130.094 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 130.094. INNOVATIVE WORKFORCE TRAINING CENTER. (a) In | ||
| this section, "training center" means the Innovative Workforce | ||
| Training Center established under this section. | ||
| (b) The Innovative Workforce Training Center is established | ||
| to develop and provide initial and continuing education and | ||
| training for workers in the Rio Grande Valley, including education | ||
| and training in the following specific areas: | ||
| (1) welding; | ||
| (2) civil, commercial, residential, and industrial | ||
| construction; | ||
| (3) installing electrical systems; | ||
| (4) installing heating, ventilation, and | ||
| air-conditioning systems; and | ||
| (5) mechatronics. | ||
| (c) Texas Southmost College shall administer the training | ||
| center. The headquarters of the training center are located at | ||
| Texas Southmost College in Brownsville. The training center may | ||
| use property and facilities owned or leased by Texas Southmost | ||
| College. | ||
| (d) The training center may solicit and accept gifts and | ||
| grants from any public or private source for purposes of this | ||
| section. The legislature may appropriate money for purposes of | ||
| this section. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. | ||
