relating to consideration of certain students who are dependents of | ||
members of the United States military for purposes of a school | ||
district's dropout records. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 39.308, Education Code, is amended by | ||
adding Subsection (f) to read as follows: | ||
(f) As part of the audit of school district dropout records | ||
under Subsection (a), the commissioner shall determine whether the | ||
district's dropout records include any student who is a dependent | ||
of a member of the United States military and who transferred out of | ||
the school district and enrolled in another district in this state | ||
without notifying the school district. The commissioner shall | ||
exclude any student described by this subsection for purposes of | ||
evaluating dropout and completion rates for the district. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2023-2024 | ||
school year. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
