| relating to the maintenance by certain hospitals of records | ||
| regarding certain uncompensated care costs. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 311, Health and Safety | ||
| Code, is amended by adding Section 311.034 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 311.034. RECORDS OF CERTAIN COSTS REQUIRED; REPORT. | ||
| (a) A public or private hospital that receives trauma funds under | ||
| Section 773.122, 780.004, or 782.003 or Section 403.106, Government | ||
| Code, shall maintain a record of: | ||
| (1) the amount of uncompensated care costs at the | ||
| hospital resulting from workplace injuries; and | ||
| (2) the cause of each workplace injury for which | ||
| treatment is uncompensated or, if the cause is not known, the name | ||
| of the employer of the injured person. | ||
| (b) A hospital described by Subsection (a) annually shall | ||
| submit to the department a report containing the records required | ||
| by that subsection. | ||
| (c) The department shall provide technical assistance to a | ||
| hospital described by Subsection (a) to maximize the efficiency of | ||
| reporting under this section. | ||
| SECTION 2. A hospital required to report to the Department | ||
| of State Health Services under Section 311.034, Health and Safety | ||
| Code, as added by this Act, shall submit the initial report required | ||
| by that section not later than August 1, 2012. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2011. | ||
