| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Subtitle B, Title 14, Local | ||
| Government Code, is amended by adding section 615.025 to read as | ||
| follows: | ||
| Section 615.025. PROHIBITION ON THIRD-PARTY DEBT COLLECTION. | ||
| (a) This section applies only to a county with a population of 1.7 | ||
| million, but not more than 1.8 million. | ||
| (b) A county described by subsection (a) may not use a | ||
| third-party debt collector as defined by Chapter 392, Finance Code, | ||
| for the collection of a traffic fine assessed by a justice court. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. | ||
