| relating to applicability of certain public school requirements to | ||
| private schools that accept students with vouchers, tax credit | ||
| scholarships, or certain other funding. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 29, Education Code, is | ||
| amended by adding Section 29.919 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 29.919. PRIVATE SCHOOL EQUALIZATION. A private school | ||
| that accepts a student with a voucher, tax credit scholarship, or | ||
| any other funding that would otherwise have been part of the | ||
| foundation school fund is subject to: | ||
| (1) public school accountability under Subchapters B, | ||
| C, D, E, and J, Chapter 39, as if the private school were a public | ||
| school campus; and | ||
| (2) any requirement in Chapter 551 or 552, Government | ||
| Code, or another law that concerns open meetings or the | ||
| availability of information, that applies to a school district, the | ||
| board of trustees of a school district, or public school students. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2013-2014 | ||
| school year. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2013. | ||
