R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Dennis Allen was inducted into the
  Hurst-Euless-Bedford Sports Hall of Fame on February 16, 2013, in
  recognition of his notable contributions to local athletics; and
         WHEREAS, Since 1995, the H-E-B Sports Hall of Fame has paid
  tribute to individuals and teams who have made a positive impact in
  the community through sports-related endeavors; the hall was
  created to acknowledge successful teams and athletes as well as
  officials, administrators, trainers, medical practitioners, media
  figures, and others who have distinguished themselves with their
  achievements; and
         WHEREAS, Dennis Allen's remarkable athletic skills first
  received widespread attention during his years at L. D. Bell High
  School; he lettered in basketball and baseball and was especially
  impressive in football, where his exceptional play as a safety
  garnered all-district, all-area, and all-state honors and earned
  him the 5A State Defensive Player of the Year award in 1990; he went
  on to attend Texas A&M University on a football scholarship,
  becoming a vital member of the Aggies' defense; and
         WHEREAS, After earning his bachelor's degree, Mr. Allen
  joined the Texas A&M coaching staff as a graduate assistant and then
  served as an assistant coach at the University of Tulsa; he stepped
  up to the National Football League coaching ranks in 2002 as a
  defensive assistant with the Atlanta Falcons; four years later, he
  moved to the New Orleans Saints, and his outstanding work
  overseeing the defensive secondary contributed to the team's
  successful quest to become Super Bowl champions during the
  2009-2010 season; following a year spent as defensive coordinator
  with the Denver Broncos in 2011, he was hired as the head coach of
  the Oakland Raiders and is presently the youngest person guiding a
  team in the NFL; and
         WHEREAS, The many accomplishments realized by Dennis Allen
  have helped advance the proud tradition of athletic excellence in
  the Hurst-Euless-Bedford school system and beyond, and he is indeed
  deserving of this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Dennis Allen on his induction into
  the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Sports Hall of Fame and extend to him
  sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Allen as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
