R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Director of bands Stephen Cox of Advanced Learning
Academy and Fox Tech and CAST Tech High Schools in San Antonio was
named the recipient of the 2022 Music Educator Award by the
Recording Academy, the organization that confers the annual Grammy
Awards; and
WHEREAS, Each year, the Recording Academy and the Grammy
Museum recognize educators from across the United States who have
demonstrated a steadfast commitment to advancing the field of music
education; Mr. Cox was selected for the 2022 award out of more than
1,100 nominees; and
WHEREAS, Prior to joining ALA and Fox Tech and CAST Tech High
Schools, Mr. Cox served as the band director at Eastland High
School for 10 years; over the course of his career as an educator,
he has distinguished himself as a caring and supportive mentor
while maintaining high expectations; he has made an extra effort to
incorporate his students' interests in lessons, and he has provided
them with opportunities to develop their leadership skills; in
addition, he helps connect students with the wider community by
coordinating public performances; under his able guidance, the
Eastland High band received numerous honors and advanced to
multiple state competitions; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Cox has further contributed to the fine arts
community by establishing the Eastland Jazz Festival, and he has
been a featured speaker at such events as the Texas Music Educators
Association Convention, the Texas Bandmasters Association
Convention, and the Midwest Clinic; his accolades include being
named one of 50 Directors Who Make a Difference by School Band and
Orchestra magazine; he is a graduate of Howard Payne University;
and
WHEREAS, Stephen Cox has greatly enriched the lives of many
young Texans through his passion for teaching and his extraordinary
expertise in music, and he is truly deserving of this national
recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Stephen Cox on receiving the 2022
Music Educator Award from the Recording Academy and extend to him
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Cox as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
