R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Countless lives were touched by the kindness and
  generosity of John Steven Mostyn of Houston, who passed away on
  November 15, 2017, at the age of 46; and
         WHEREAS, John Steven Mostyn was born on March 25, 1971, in
  Perth, Australia, to George and Glenda Jean Mostyn; the family soon
  moved to East Texas, where Steve was raised with the companionship
  of a brother and a beloved sister, Jaculyn, whom he adored and
  admired; Steve was a very bright and outgoing child; upon
  graduating from high school in Whitehouse, Texas, he proudly
  attended The University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a
  bachelor's degree in business administration; Steve was admitted to
  South Texas College of Law, where he obtained a juris doctorate
  degree in 1996 and graduated cum laude; and
         WHEREAS, Determined to use his skills and legal acumen to
  help others, Steve founded a private law practice in 1999,
  specializing in civil litigation; his expertise notably influenced
  business-to-consumer practices within the medical and insurance
  industries while obtaining significant recoveries for individuals
  and families; and
         WHEREAS, Steve met and fell head over heels in love with
  attorney Amber Anderson; they married in 2006 and began working as
  partners in the Mostyn Law Firm; the couple demonstrated a visibly
  deep bond, making them nearly inseparable; Steve was a devoted
  family man and an enormously proud father of two beautiful
  children, Mitchell and Avalyn, with whom he enjoyed countless
  sporting activities, travels, and family adventures; and
         WHEREAS, Steve cared deeply for the most vulnerable residents
  of Texas; he founded the Mostyn Moreno Educational Foundation,
  which was named in honor of Steve's mother, the late Glenda Jean
  Mostyn, and in memory of his good friend, State Representative Joe
  Moreno; the foundation has helped thousands of Texas children with
  special needs; Steve's philanthropy continued as he became an
  ongoing donor to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and he
  was also the largest individual benefactor to the Special Olympics
  of Texas for the construction of the 20,000-square-foot Special
  Olympics headquarters in Austin that was named after Amber's
  mother, Christi Stanley; and
         WHEREAS, Along with his wife and their talented legal team,
  Steve helped thousands of families recover from the catastrophic
  damage of Hurricanes Rita, Ike, and Sandy; highly respected by his
  peers, he became the youngest president of the Texas Trial Lawyers
  Association, and he later founded the Texas Association of Consumer
  Lawyers in 2014; and
         WHEREAS, Steve was well-known as a prominent influencer in
  the political landscape of Texas and throughout the country; and
         WHEREAS, Steve Mostyn will forever be regarded as a strong
  voice for the voiceless, a fierce fighter for justice, and a
  tireless advocate committed to the greater good; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life and legacy of John Steven
  Mostyn on his birthday, March 25, 2019, and extend sincere
  condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Steve
  Mostyn.
