| WHEREAS, Family, friends, former colleagues, and residents | ||
| of the Scurry and Rosser communities are mourning the loss of Chris | ||
| Bowen Couch, who passed away on June 15, 2012, at the age of 53; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Born in Bay City on September 15, 1958, to Leon Bowen | ||
| Couch and Joan Edith Eggleston, Chris Couch attended Forney High | ||
| School and was a standout athlete there; in addition to running | ||
| track, he played varsity football for four years, receiving | ||
| All-District Offensive and Defensive Player honors and designation | ||
| as Most Valuable Player his senior year; Mr. Couch subsequently | ||
| played football for Eastern Arizona State University before earning | ||
| his bachelor's degree from East Texas State University and a | ||
| master's degree and superintendent's certification from Texas A&M | ||
| University--Commerce; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Over the course of his career, Chris Couch served as | ||
| a football and powerlifting coach at North Garland High School, as | ||
| principal of Scurry-Rosser Middle School, and as superintendent of | ||
| the Scurry-Rosser Independent School District; under his guidance, | ||
| the middle school was named a National Blue Ribbon School by the | ||
| U.S. Department of Education and the district was rated "Exemplary" | ||
| by the Texas Education Agency; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A man of faith, Mr. Couch was a former elder at the | ||
| First Presbyterian Church in Forney, and he attended Mt. Olive | ||
| Baptist Church in Scurry; he was a loving family man who treasured | ||
| his wife, Lana, and his children, Thomas, Ali, and Lindsay; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Chris Couch distinguished himself as an outstanding | ||
| leader and administrator, and those who were blessed to share in the | ||
| richness of his life will forever hold him close in their hearts; | ||
| now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Chris Bowen Couch and | ||
| extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, | ||
| Lana Montgomery Couch; to his children, Thomas Gordon Couch, Ali | ||
| Montgomery Couch, and Lindsay Lee Bowen Couch; to his mother, Joan | ||
| Couch Oehlschlaeger; to his brothers, Mark Couch and his wife, | ||
| Laurie, and Bruce Couch and his wife, Lisa; to his sister, Ginny | ||
| Pruet, and her husband, James; and to his other relatives and | ||
| friends; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
| Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Chris Bowen | ||
| Couch. | ||
