| WHEREAS, Students, parents, faculty, and administrators from | ||
| Assumption Catholic School in Houston are visiting the State | ||
| Capitol on March 25, 2011, to learn more about the government and | ||
| history of the Lone Star State; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Originally opened as an elementary school, this fine | ||
| educational institution merged with St. Charles Borromeo in 2009 | ||
| after that school closed due to damage from Hurricane Ike; now | ||
| serving students in prekindergarten through eighth grade, | ||
| Assumption offers a comprehensive curriculum with traditional | ||
| academic subjects, formal religious instruction, a wide range of | ||
| extracurricular activities, and opportunities for community | ||
| involvement; the school's outreach programs include support of the | ||
| San Jose Clinic, the only full-time clinic in the area dedicated | ||
| exclusively to serving the uninsured, and the St. Vincent de Paul | ||
| pantry; the Assumption community also gives back to Houston | ||
| residents by distributing food, clothing, and gifts to families in | ||
| need during the holiday season; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Susan Hatter, a history and literature teacher at | ||
| Assumption since 1976, has been responsible for the school's annual | ||
| trips to the Capitol for nearly 20 years; she attended Assumption | ||
| Elementary as a child and received her degree in education in 1974; | ||
| another individual deserving of special recognition is Pat Clark, | ||
| who has served Assumption as principal for 13 years; he spent nearly | ||
| three decades in the United States Army, serving his country in | ||
| Vietnam, Panama, and Germany, and was a teacher and dean of students | ||
| at St. Pius X High School before his arrival at Assumption; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Committed to providing a high-quality, | ||
| faith-centered education, Assumption Catholic School is helping | ||
| its students succeed academically and realize their full potential, | ||
| and in so doing, it is building a solid foundation for the future | ||
| achievement of many young Texans; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby welcome the visiting delegation from Assumption | ||
| Catholic School to the State Capitol and extend to all those in | ||
| attendance sincere best wishes for a meaningful and informative | ||
| stay in Austin; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
| House of Representatives. | ||
