| WHEREAS, Texas A&M University at Galveston broke ground for | ||
| the second phase of its academic complex project on February 16, | ||
| 2017; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This special-purpose Texas A&M campus features a | ||
| curriculum centered on marine studies and maritime technology; over | ||
| the past 16 years, its enrollment has grown more than tenfold, and | ||
| the school's new academic complex will position the campus for | ||
| continued growth; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The fourth major building to be started on the | ||
| grounds in three years, this 38,000-square-foot facility features | ||
| colors, materials, and design details that will enhance the | ||
| university's "front door" and make a dramatic first impression on | ||
| visitors; a pedestrian mall between this new building and one | ||
| erected during the first phase of construction will draw the eye to | ||
| Bracewell Clock Tower while serving as a passage between the | ||
| entrance to campus and the quadrangle at its heart; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Once completed, the state-of-the-art building will | ||
| include a large lecture hall that can be subdivided into smaller | ||
| lecture spaces, along with seminar rooms, mail and copy services, | ||
| the campus bookstore, and the offices of the school's | ||
| administration and auxiliary services; the copious use of glass in | ||
| the design will provide ample natural light to the interior while | ||
| adding to the building's visual appeal; and | ||
| WHEREAS, With its specialized educational program and | ||
| growing student body, Texas A&M University at Galveston is a campus | ||
| on the move, and this striking new facility will contribute greatly | ||
| to the future success of the university; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby commemorate the groundbreaking of the second | ||
| phase of the academic complex project at Texas A&M University at | ||
| Galveston and extend to the school's administration, faculty, | ||
| staff, and students sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it | ||
| further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for the university as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
