WHEREAS, Demonstrating great skill and dedication, the | ||
Throckmorton High School football team won the University | ||
Interscholastic League Six-Man 1A Division 2 state championship on | ||
December 13, 2014; and | ||
WHEREAS, Matching up against Groom High School in the title | ||
game played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, the Greyhounds dominated | ||
their opponent as they had so many others before, winning by a score | ||
of 66-20 after their lead exceeded the 45-point "mercy rule" limit | ||
midway through the third quarter; this marked the 12th time that the | ||
team won in this manner during the 2014 campaign, and the | ||
championship victory closed out an exceptional season in which | ||
Throckmorton compiled a perfect 14-0 overall record; moreover, the | ||
title-game win gave the school its third state championship in the | ||
past four years, further cementing its reputation as a six-man | ||
football powerhouse; and | ||
WHEREAS, The team's explosive offensive attack was led by | ||
running back Casey Mitchell, who was named the Offensive Most | ||
Valuable Player of the game after rushing for 168 yards and scoring | ||
four touchdowns; on the defensive side, Coletyn King earned the MVP | ||
honor after making several key tackles and intercepting one pass; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, In their march to the state title, the Greyhounds | ||
also received valuable contributions from the other members of the | ||
roster: Carson Scrogum, Noah Batts, Lanham Brown, Adam Hernandez, | ||
Hayden Farquhar, Luke Hale, C. J. Rankin, Ben McCartney, Ben | ||
Hernandez, Keith Balthrop, Noah Navarro, and Parker Boyd; and | ||
WHEREAS, These talented athletes received essential guidance | ||
from head coach Shane Mallory, and the Greyhounds also benefited | ||
from the knowledgeable advice of assistant coaches Jason | ||
Blankenship and Ryan Dollar; and | ||
WHEREAS, Winning a state championship is a daunting task that | ||
requires countless hours of hard work and an unwavering commitment | ||
to excellence, and the members of the Throckmorton High School | ||
Greyhounds football team may take justifiable pride in their | ||
exceptional accomplishments on the gridiron; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby congratulate the Throckmorton High School | ||
football team on winning the 2014 UIL Six-Man 1A Division 2 state | ||
championship and extend to the team's players, coaches, and staff | ||
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
House of Representatives. | ||
