| WHEREAS, The Hardin County Commissioners Court has passed a | ||
| resolution providing for a plaque bearing the inscription "In God | ||
| We Trust" to be placed in the commissioners courtroom in Kountze; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, On February 9, 2015, the commissioners unanimously | ||
| approved the motion, and their decision was met with jubilant | ||
| cheers from a throng of local citizens in support of the measure; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, The phrase "In God We Trust" has a long-standing | ||
| history in the United States dating back to the Civil War, when it | ||
| began appearing on U.S. coins in response to popular demand; those | ||
| words were formally adopted as the national motto by Congress in | ||
| 1956, and our national anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner," also | ||
| proclaims "in God is our trust"; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The display of "In God We Trust" is a fitting tribute | ||
| to the principles on which our nation was founded and to the | ||
| enduring beliefs and traditions that have helped shape our shared | ||
| heritage; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby commend the Hardin County Commissioners Court | ||
| for exhibiting the motto "In God We Trust" in the commissioners | ||
| courtroom; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for the commissioners court as an expression of high | ||
| regard by the Texas House of Representatives. | ||
