| WHEREAS, Fayetta Francis is the founder of the Vintage Jewels | ||
| Chapter of the Red Hat Society, San Antonio, which is celebrating | ||
| its fifth anniversary in 2011; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Ms. Francis, affectionately known by chapter | ||
| members as "Queen Fay," established the San Antonio group on March | ||
| 29, 2006, with the assistance of her five daughters and members from | ||
| a Red Hat chapter in Giddings; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Red Hat Society was started in 1998 by Sue Ellen | ||
| Cooper; women belonging to the social networking community support | ||
| each other in the pursuit of vital, active living through middle age | ||
| and beyond; since its inception, the grassroots movement has | ||
| continued to evolve, blossoming into more than 20,000 chapters | ||
| throughout all 50 states and over 25 countries and fostering | ||
| countless friendships and a spirited embrace of life's | ||
| possibilities; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Charter members of the Vintage Jewels Chapter are | ||
| Willie Jane Barr, Cheryl Clark, Christi Evans, Fay Francis, Maeoris | ||
| Hogan, Carolyn James, Glendora Luster, Gloria Moore, Adelle Perry, | ||
| O. Marie Smith, Ellon Williams, Marie Remming, Jefri Willis, | ||
| Dorothy Holliway, and Ella Hewitt; today, the chapter has a | ||
| membership of nearly two dozen; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Red Hat Society frowns on rules, and chapters | ||
| are encouraged to design their own way of operating; members of the | ||
| Vintage Jewels Chapter gather once a month for social activities, | ||
| which may include a tea party; Fay Francis presents a cup and saucer | ||
| to each new member for just such an occasion; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Born on April 5, 1931, Ms. Francis has lived in San | ||
| Antonio for nearly a quarter-century; she will doubtlessly mark the | ||
| joyous occasion of her 80th birthday surrounded by her fellow | ||
| Vintage Jewels, decked out in their signature red hats and purple | ||
| clothing; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Fayetta Francis has greatly enriched the lives of | ||
| her family and many friends, and she continues to be a source of joy | ||
| and inspiration to all who are privileged to share in her love and | ||
| affection; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby honor Fayetta Francis, founder of the Vintage | ||
| Jewels Chapter of the Red Hat Society, San Antonio, on the occasion | ||
| of the chapter's fifth anniversary and extend to her sincere best | ||
| wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Ms. Francis as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
