| WHEREAS, Melissa McWherter of Liberty Hill Junior High School | ||
| has been named VFW Teacher of the Year for District 28; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A history teacher, Ms. McWherter coordinated a | ||
| Veterans Day ceremony on the campus in 2013 to help students develop | ||
| personal connections to the nation's past; the event grew even | ||
| bigger the following year, involving the band and the yearbook | ||
| staff, as well as the talents of students of art, theater, and | ||
| history, among others; a celebration for the whole community, it | ||
| proved so memorable that local VFW officials have asked to make it | ||
| their official observance in subsequent years; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Ms. McWherter completed her bachelor's degree in | ||
| history at Texas Tech University, and she holds a master's degree in | ||
| education from Lamar University; she has 11 years of experience as | ||
| an educator, and before joining Liberty Hill, she taught in the | ||
| Lubbock, Leander, and Georgetown Independent School Districts; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Through her endeavors as organizer of the annual | ||
| Veterans Day event at Liberty Hill Junior High School, Melissa | ||
| McWherter has helped students develop a greater understanding of | ||
| the sacrifices made by the men and women of our nation's military, | ||
| and her contributions indeed merit special recognition; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby congratulate Melissa McWherter on her selection | ||
| as VFW Teacher of the Year for District 28 and extend to her sincere | ||
| best wishes for continued success in her important work; and, be it | ||
| further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Ms. McWherter as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
