R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Kylie Fichter of Houston has been named one of the
top youth volunteers in Texas as part of the 18th annual Prudential
Spirit of Community Awards program; and
WHEREAS, Sponsored by Prudential Financial and the National
Association of Secondary School Principals, the Spirit of Community
Awards honor young people in middle and high school who have
demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to serving their
communities; and
WHEREAS, A senior at St. Agnes Academy, Ms. Fichter was named
a Spirit of Community Distinguished Finalist for her contributions
to Challenger Sports initiatives that benefit children with
disabilities; as part of that effort, she created a new program at
Camp Buckaroo, which is operated by Easter Seals Greater Houston;
her responsibilities included securing equipment and uniforms for
participants, and she served as a "lead buddy" for each game during
the season; in the course of her volunteer work, Ms. Fichter has
helped raise over $30,000 for this worthy endeavor; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding young Texan has demonstrated
remarkable initiative and determination in the pursuit of a
selfless goal, and she is a source of inspiration to all who are
privileged to know her; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Kylie Fichter on being named a
Distinguished Finalist in the 2013 Prudential Spirit of Community
Awards program and extend to her sincere best wishes for success in
all her future endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Fichter as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
