  H.R. No. 810

R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The boys' basketball team from Bowie High School in
El Paso closed out the 2010-2011 regular season with a 66-59 victory
over Chapin High School on February 15, 2011, and this crucial win
ultimately led to the team being crowned the District 1-4A
  champion; and
WHEREAS, Omar Acosta overcame an injured ankle to lead the
Bears with 26 points, including two late free throws to seal the
game, and Jesse Lopez added 15 points; the triumph gave Bowie a
record of 12 wins and 2 losses in district play, which equaled that
of Andress High, and a coin toss between the two teams later earned
  Bowie the 1-4A title; and
WHEREAS, After securing the district championship, the Bears
continued their fine play in the University Interscholastic League
4A state playoffs; they defeated Ysleta High School in their
bi-district matchup before falling to The Colony in a hard-fought
game on February 25 to finish the season with a 22-8 record; and
WHEREAS, Winning a district championship represents the
culmination of countless hours of hard work and an enduring
commitment to excellence, and these talented student-athletes and
coach Daniel Celaya may take justifiable pride in this
  accomplishment; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the Bowie High School Bears
basketball team on winning the District 1-4A championship and
extend to the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best
wishes for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
