WHEREAS, A delegation from Chinquapin Preparatory School in | ||
Highlands is visiting the State Capitol on March 27, 2019; and | ||
WHEREAS, With the help of a grant from The Brown Foundation, | ||
Chinquapin Prep was established in 1969 by Robert Moore of | ||
St. John's School and his wife, Maxine Moore; in the decades since | ||
its founding, the school has worked to equip economically | ||
disadvantaged students with the knowledge and skills necessary to | ||
succeed in college and beyond; in addition to promoting academic | ||
excellence through its rigorous curriculum, the school has also | ||
fostered a sense of personal responsibility and civic duty by | ||
focusing on community service and on earning what one receives; and | ||
WHEREAS, Drawing its students from throughout the Houston | ||
area, Chinquapin Prep currently serves approximately 160 sixth | ||
through 12th graders, including an exceptional class of graduating | ||
seniors, all 22 of whom have been accepted to at least one four-year | ||
college; the school benefits from the leadership of director | ||
Dr. Laura Henry; and | ||
WHEREAS, For the past half century, Chinquapin Prep has | ||
helped many young Texans from underserved families become engaged | ||
and productive citizens, and the school is indeed deserving of | ||
recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby honor the delegation from Chinquapin | ||
Preparatory School on the occasion of its visit to the State Capitol | ||
and extend to all those associated with the school sincere best | ||
wishes for the future. | ||
