	H.R. No. 767



	R E S O L U T I O N

	WHEREAS, Members of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc., are gathering
	at their 48th Middlesouth Regional Conference on April 4-7, 2013,
	and this event provides an excellent occasion to recognize the
	group for its notable achievements; and
	WHEREAS, Established in 1932 at Freedmen's Hospital in
	Washington, D.C., Chi Eta Phi is a national sorority of
	professional registered nurses and nursing students that aims to
	increase interest and develop leaders in the field; today, the
	organization boasts more than 8,000 members, both male and female,
	in over 90 graduate and 50 undergraduate chapters in 26 states, the
	District of Columbia, the Virgin Islands, and Liberia; and
	WHEREAS, Among the many programs sponsored by Chi Eta Phi are
	those designed to strengthen nursing student recruitment and
	retention, disseminate new knowledge and best practices, and
	promote health through preventative care; in addition to holding
	its own National Hypertension Awareness and Screening Week, the
	sorority partners with the National Eye Health Education Program
	for its diabetes, glaucoma awareness, and low vision projects, with
	the National Cancer Institute for its National Black Leadership
	Initiative on Cancer, and with the Association of SIDS and Infant
	Mortality Programs for its Back to Sleep campaign; the group also
	works with a wide variety of other civic, professional, and
	educational organizations to better advance its mission; and
	WHEREAS, For more than eight decades, Chi Eta Phi sorority
	has enriched the lives of its members and played a significant role
	in improving the health and well-being of countless Texans; now,
	therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
	Legislature hereby honor Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc., for its
	outstanding contributions to the field of nursing and extend to all
	its members sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
	further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
	prepared for the sorority as an expression of high regard by the
	Texas House of Representatives.
