H.R. No. 749

R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Page
Leslie Skerry of Austin, who passed away on February 27, 2017, at
the age of 85; and
WHEREAS, The son of Page and Grace Skerry, Page Skerry was
born in New York City in 1931 and grew up with the companionship of a
sister, Sherin-Lee; he answered his nation's call to duty during
the Korean War as a member of the U.S. Navy, and he was awarded the
National Defense Service Medal before receiving his honorable
discharge at the rank of petty officer second class in 1954; and
WHEREAS, After returning to civilian life, Mr. Skerry
enjoyed a career that spanned nearly four and a half decades at
Chemical Bank, where he eventually became vice president; along the
way, he graduated with a bachelor's degree from St. John's
University; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Skerry generously volunteered his time and
energies in behalf of his community, serving as a lifetime member of
the Knights of Columbus, as the longest-tenured president of Travis
County Water Control and Improvement District No. 20, and as
treasurer of the Rob Roy on The Creek Homeowners Association and Boy
Scouts of America Troop No. 990; in his leisure hours, he was an
avid football fan who never missed an opportunity to cheer on his
favorite team, the New York Giants; and
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Skerry enjoyed the love
and support of his wife, Joan, with whom he shared a quarter century
of marriage; he was further blessed with three sons, Bradley
Skerry, Timothy Skerry, and Christopher DeChillo and his wife,
Jennifer; and
WHEREAS, Page Skerry lived a life that was rich in personal
and professional achievements, and he leaves behind a record of
service that his loved ones can remember with pride; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Page Leslie Skerry
and extend heartfelt sympathy to his relatives and many friends;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Page Leslie
Skerry.
