R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Page |
|
|
Leslie Skerry of Austin, who passed away on February 27, 2017, at |
|
|
the age of 85; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The son of Page and Grace Skerry, Page Skerry was |
|
|
born in New York City in 1931 and grew up with the companionship of a |
|
|
sister, Sherin-Lee; he answered his nation's call to duty during |
|
|
the Korean War as a member of the U.S. Navy, and he was awarded the |
|
|
National Defense Service Medal before receiving his honorable |
|
|
discharge at the rank of petty officer second class in 1954; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, After returning to civilian life, Mr. Skerry |
|
|
enjoyed a career that spanned nearly four and a half decades at |
|
|
Chemical Bank, where he eventually became vice president; along the |
|
|
way, he graduated with a bachelor's degree from St. John's |
|
|
University; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Skerry generously volunteered his time and |
|
|
energies in behalf of his community, serving as a lifetime member of |
|
|
the Knights of Columbus, as the longest-tenured president of Travis |
|
|
County Water Control and Improvement District No. 20, and as |
|
|
treasurer of the Rob Roy on The Creek Homeowners Association and Boy |
|
|
Scouts of America Troop No. 990; in his leisure hours, he was an |
|
|
avid football fan who never missed an opportunity to cheer on his |
|
|
favorite team, the New York Giants; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Skerry enjoyed the love |
|
|
and support of his wife, Joan, with whom he shared a quarter century |
|
|
of marriage; he was further blessed with three sons, Bradley |
|
|
Skerry, Timothy Skerry, and Christopher DeChillo and his wife, |
|
|
Jennifer; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Page Skerry lived a life that was rich in personal |
|
|
and professional achievements, and he leaves behind a record of |
|
|
service that his loved ones can remember with pride; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Page Leslie Skerry |
|
|
and extend heartfelt sympathy to his relatives and many friends; |
|
|
and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Page Leslie |
|
|
Skerry. |
